AREA
Our Villa is set in a unique natural oasis surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and woods, in the amazing Tuscany countryside, just 20minutes away from Florence, but far away from the hustle & bustle of the city, yet close to cities of historical and cultural interest such as Impruneta, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti.
We are at less than 5 minutes’ drive from the square of Impruneta, where you can find supermarket, shops, pharmacies, bars, reastaurants, laundry and bus stop to Florence, if you do not want to drive.
Situated at the gates of Chianti Classico and well-known for its pottery industry,for the many olive groves poiting the hills, which give a great EVO produced in the oil mills of the area (frantoi), for its beautiful square and for the amazing view on the sourrounding hills, Impruneta is one of the most appreciated site from the tourists that have here the opportunity to spend unforgettable moments in an oasis of absolute relax and at the same time to enjoy Florence’s proximity (just 10km).
Every Saturday an outdoor market is held in the central square.
Its traditions date back to Etruscan. It became a very important county in the medieval times, so much that Florence tryed to fight the power of the noble families of the area till they raze the Montebuoni rock owned by the Buondelmonti, who dominated the whole Impruneta’s community.
Impruneta is famous above all for the industry of pottery (called Terracotta of Impruneta), which here has a centuries-old tradition (in fact even Brunelleschi used it for its Dome), infact during the medieval era it was used both with ornamental purpose and to produce building materials.
In Impruneta you should visit at least the Basilica of Santa Maria, an old church in the Romanesque style, where you can admire the works of Della Robbia, Benedetto da Maiano and Gherardo Silvani. Also the Buondelmonti square with its arcades of the late sixteenth century, that houses the main city festivals, is worth a visit.

We are in a “doc area” not only for wines, but also for those who like food (to taste the famous “Peposo all’imprunetina”) and to travel slowly:
In fact, many hiking or mountain bike trails start from Casa Girasole: wonderful walking or biking trails that lead to the sourrounding hills. We can provide you with any information about it or organize local guides on request. Impruneta is right in the middle of the big tour between Siena and Florence and is in fact an excellent base for tours in all directions.
Traveling by bicycle or walking in Chianti is an extraordinary experience that leaves the pleasant taste of a return to the past, of pleasant and characteristic encounters, and glimpses of immaculate landscapes: vineyards, ancient castles, abbeys, monasteries and above all the dense network of white roads that cross hills and small villages of incredible charm between Florence and Siena.
If you decide to visit Impruneta from october to december, you can enjoy a stop at one of the many mills of the area, where people bring their olives “to press” and at one of the farms around to buy new oil and wine.

Other sights in the area are:
Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte, the classic example of a country mansion;
Church of San Lorenzo alle Rose, of ancient origin;
Church of S. Miniato in Quintole, the '300 church, famous for its terracotta facade.
Church of Santa Maria all’Impruneta,
Arte sacra museum of Impruneta
During the year many festivals and cultural activities take place in Impruneta, such asthe traditional Fair of San Luca, which takes place every year in mid-October, and the Festa dell'Uva, which takes place every last Sunday of September.
In Chianti Area there are also many other typical villages to visit and very interesting food and wine itineraries.

Absolutely to visit nearby are, obiously Impruneta, reachable by car in less than 5minutes (1km), where you’ll find the main services asuch as supermarket and bank, Greve in Chianti (15km), Radda in Chianti(34km), San Casciano in Val di Pesa (10km),
Castellina (35km), Siena (60km) and of course Florence (10km).
